Premarin is a brand medication that contains Conjugated oestrogen, which is a type of female hormone. It is used to replace low levels of oestrogen as the treatment of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Premarin is also used to treat symptoms and conditions associated with menopause, such as hot flushes and mood swings.
Premarin is available as tablets, creams or injections.
For menopausal symptoms, the usual starting dose is 0.3mg once daily.
For cream, it comes with an applicator. Insert the application into the vagina every day, preferably at night to avoid leakage. Press the plunger to release the medication. Wash the applicator with warm soapy water after use.
Common side effects of Premarin include stomach discomfort, headache, leg and stomach cramps, mood swings, nervousness, painful/tender breast and drowsiness.
Common dosing schedule:
Premarin tablets can be taken any time of day, but try to take them at the same time each day.
Premarin cream is applied every night before bed.
