Benzydamine belongs to a class of medications called Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). It works by stopping the formation of prostaglandin, a natural substance made by the body when it is injured or has an infection, which promotes pain, redness, swelling and a feeling of heat in that area. Benzydamine is used to treat pain and inflammation in the oropharynx (throat or mouth), for example, sore throat, mouth ulcers and pain in laryngitis, mucositis due to radiation therapy and after dental surgery.
