Pirocam is a brand medication that contains piroxicam, which belongs to a class of medications called Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). It works by blocking the production of prostaglandin which helps to reduce pain. Therefore, it is used to treat acute pain including rheumatoid arthritis, gout, osteoarthritis, pain and inflammation in musculoskeletal disorders.
Pirocam is available as capsules and injections.
For acute pain,
Adults
Take 20 mg once daily.
Child 6-17 years
46 kg and above: 20 mg once daily.
26-45 kg: 15 mg once daily.
15-25 kg: 10 mg once daily.
Less than 15 kg: 5 mg once daily.
Common side effects of Pirocam include stomach discomfort, nausea, and bleeding gastric ulcer. With prolonged use, it may cause liver and kidney toxicity and increase the risk of a cardiovascular event.
Do not use more than one NSAIDs at the same time.
Common dosing schedule:
Take with or after meal to reduce stomach discomfort.
