What is Imovane for?

Imovane is a brand product that contains Zopiclone, which belongs to a class of non-benzodiazepine. It works by enhancing the effect of a certain chemical in your brain in order to induce sleepiness. It is used short-term only to treat insomnia.

How to use it?

Imovane is available as tablets. The usual adult dose is 3.75 mg once daily at bedtime, and may increase up to 7.5 mg as maximum daily dose. Use not more than 7-10 consecutive days.

What are the side effects of Imovane?

Common side effects of Imovane include irregular heartbeat, sweating and shivering.

Who should not take Imovane?

  • People who are allergic to Zopiclone or any component of the formulation
  • Patients with severe respiratory impairment
  • Patients with myasthenia gravis
  • Patients with severe hepatic insufficiency
  • Patients with a history of complex sleep behaviors (after taking any non-benzodiazepine sedative)

Pharmacist Tips:

  • Before taking a hypnotic like Imovane, it is recommended to try supplements like Melatonin or adjust your sleeping routine to maintain a good sleeping hygiene.
  • Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert after you take this drug. You may still feel sleepy the day after you take this drug. Avoid these tasks or actions until you feel fully awake (at least 12 hours after taking your dose).
  • Avoid alcohol use while taking this medication.
