What is Acertil?

Acertil is a brand medication that contains Perindopril, which belongs to a class of medications called angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs). ACEIs work by blocking the substances that constrict the blood vessels and hence more blood and oxygen can reach the heart. It is used in hypertension and heart failure. Acertil is also used in combination with Indapamine, in a formulation called Acertil Plus. 

How to use it?

Acertil is available as tablets. 

For hypertension, 
the usual starting dose is 5mg once daily in the morning. It may go up to a maximum of 10mg after one month of treatment. 

What are the side effects of Acertil?

Common side effects of Perindopril include low blood pressure, kidney impairment, dry cough, and high potassium levels.

Who should not take Acertil?

  • Anyone who is allergic to any component of Acertil, and other ACE inhibitors.
  • Patients with angioedema after ACE inhibitors use
  • Patients with poor kidney function
  • Pregnant women and those who are trying to get pregnant

Pharmacist Tips:

  • Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how you respond as it may cause drowsiness.
  • Report to your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of angioedema (deep swelling around the eyes and lips).
  • This medication may cause a dry cough. Tell your doctor if you have a sustained or persistent cough.
  • Do not stop the medication abruptly.

Take it once daily in the morning.
