Looking to visit a private hospital in Hong Kong for shorter wait lines and more personalized options? Here is your comprehensive, independent guide to Matilda Hospital 明德國際醫院 in Hong Kong.
Matilda International Hospital is a private hospital in Hong Kong, known for its personalized patient-care and state-of-the-art technology. Sitting atop Victoria Peak, the main facility of Matilda has been serving the community since 1907 when it began to provide free healthcare for expatriates. The founder of Matilda, Granville Sharp, set out in his will to construct a hospital “not for the glory of the medical profession... but for the benefit, care and happiness of the patient.”
Today, Matilda continues to serve both the local and expatriate communities in Hong Kong while providing charitable contribution efforts. Over the years, Matilda has built an internationally recognized team particularly known for:
(Costs of surgical procedures vary depending on the room type. Please contact 2849 0355 for more information and estimates).
The Matilda Hospital staff has been caring for new and expecting mothers for over 110 years. The maternity department has a variety of rooms available, including VIP, private, twin, and standard rooms. All rooms connect to private bathrooms and come with bedside medical equipment. All VIP and private rooms also have a sofa bed that allows the partner to stay overnight at no extra charge. Moreover, Matilda is known for its breastfeeding rate of over 90%, which is one of the highest in Hong Kong according to the hospital’s maternity manager Sing Chu. Besides, to increase support for all new mothers, there are also lactation consultants and health professionals with breastfeeding training available at all times. Matilda believes that early bonding is crucial after delivery, so staff will always encourage skin-to-skin contact after the baby is born. The obstetricians visit new mothers every day after the delivery to ensure that there are no complications, and the paediatricians conduct examinations on new babies daily.
There is also unique one-to-one midwifery care that gives mothers personalised support throughtout their stay at the hospital. This includes encouragement during labor, birth, and post-delivery, offering additional sources to answer any questions expecting and new mothers may have.
On top of that, Matilda has a team of community midwives who can extend their care into your home in the first few weeks after labor. These highly trained midwives help new mothers and babies' transition into their homes and can provide support on breastfeeding and safety of the new-born baby. Community midwives can also act as an important link between new parents and their healthcare professionals at the hospital.
Matilda offers a variety of delivery packages, ranging from a normal vaginal delivery package for 2 nights to a pre-booked Caesarean delivery package for 5 nights.
Costs vary from HK$21,500 to HK$100,500. For details, visit this page.
