United Christian Hospital is one of Hong Kong’s large public hospitals, under the Hospital Authority’s Management. It is located in Kwun Tong (Kowloon East). United Christian was established in 1973 and as of writing this article, it has 1,403 beds.
It is a major acute general hospital and one of the tertiary referral hospitals in the Kowloon East Cluster. It has 24 hour A&E service with a wide range of other services including in-patient, day-patient, out-patient and community care services for the population of East Kowloon.
United Christian is one of the teaching hospitals of the Nethersole School of Nursing of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, which in 2020 ranks 1st in Hong Kong, 1st in Asia and 21st in the world according to QS World University Rankings. This hospital emphasizes on community-oriented services promoting the concept of “hospital without walls”.

If you are an eligible person (i.e. holder of HKID) and have medical insurance, public hospital costs can be reimbursed. Considering how low public fees are, most patients pay out-of-pocket.
If you are not an eligible person (visiting / tourist), public hospital costs will be much higher and it is important to ensure you are well covered.
