Yan Chai Hospital (YCH) was put into service as early as 1973 with the aim to provide Tsuen Wan and its neighboring areas with acute and extended care service. It officially became one of the major public hospitals under the Kowloon West Cluster of the Hospital Authority in 1991. Over the years, the hospital has advanced into a strong capacity with 4 blocks, more than 700 inpatient beds and 2,000 staff members.
While catering 24-hour accident & emergency services, Yan Chai Hospital is notable for its referral specialty services in otorhinolaryngology, head and neck surgery, in addition to total joint replacement.
Chinese medicine is part of the all-encompassing range of medicine services provided by Yan Chai Hospital.
Since March 2020, some YCH Chinese medicine clinics have been providing subsidized Chinese medicine general consultation and acupuncture services in the hospital, Kwai Tsing district and Sham Shui Po district respectively.
One of them is located within the hospital and has 9 consultation rooms, 1 assessment room and Chinese medicine pharmacy. Apart from Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment, acupuncture and moxibustion services, there are also internal medicine and dermatology departments as well as other expert outpatient services.

Yan Chai Hospital Social Services Department proactively responds to the dynamic needs of the society, with 5 main types of focuses, namely elderly, rehabilitation, youth and child care, training and volunteering services.
Costs at Yan Chai Hospital are determined by the Hospital Authority, and categorized into 3 groups: eligible persons, non-eligible persons and private charges.

Yan Chai Hospital boasts a full range of general and specialist medical care, e.g. Endoscopy, physiotherapy therapy, dental services, geriatrics, etc., to name just a few.
The opening hours of the hospital are 9am to 1pm, and 2pm to 5pm, from Monday to Friday. However, due to COVID-19 arrangement, external visitors are forbidden in all wards.
The general practice is that upon patients’ arrival in the accident & emergency ward, trained nurses would make a preliminary assessment. The triage nurse will then categorize the patient into 5 groups based on their conditions:

Yes. Recipients of CSSA shall notify the staff to be exempted from medical expenses every time they register for medical treatment and present identity documents. After the staff’s confirmation, they can be exempted from public medical service charges.
If you aren’t eligible for CSSA, you can also apply for the public hospital waiving of medical charges, Samaritan Fund, Community Care Fund Medical Assistance Programmes on the condition that you meet the requirements and pass the income vetting.
