Zopiclone is a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic with a similar mechanism of action as benzodiazepines and depresses the central nervous system, hence used for promoting sleep and treating insomnia.
Zopiclone is taken as oral tablets just before bedtime for not more than 7-10 consecutive days.
3.75 mg once daily at bedtime, and if necessary, increase to 5 mg and then 7.5 mg.
Common side effects of Zopiclone include palpitations, aggressive behaviour, sweating, tremor and anorexia.

In Hong Kong, Zopiclone is a prescription only medicine, and requires a prescription from a doctor to be purchased in a pharmacy. It can also be obtained from doctors.
