What is Vildagliptin for?

Vildagliptin belongs to a class of medication called dipeptidylpeptidase IV (DPP-4) inhibitors. It works by making the pancreas produce more insulin and less glucagon to control blood sugar level. It is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

How to use it?

Vildagliptin is taken orally as tablets. The usual dose is 50 mg twice daily in the morning and evening. A lower dose is used in patients with poor kidney function.

What are the side effects of Vildagliptin?

Common side effects of Vildagliptin include tremor, headache, dizziness, fatigue, nausea and hypoglycemia. This medication does not cause weight gain.

People who are allergic to Vildagliptin or any component of the formulation. This medication does not cause weight gain.

– Vildagliptin (Galvus®) contains lactose (milk sugar). If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, speak to your doctor before taking this medicine.
– Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how you respond to Vildagliptin.
– Non-drug management, including diet and exercise, also plays an important role in controlling diabetes.

Common dosing schedule:
Vildagliptin can be taken with or without food. Administer twice daily doses in the morning and evening (for someone who needs once daily dosing, administer in the morning).
