Vibramycin is a brand medication that contains Doxycycline, which belongs to a class of medications called Tetracyclines. It works by disrupting the protein synthesis of bacteria to inhibit bacterial growth. It is used for many bacterial infections like acne, pelvic inflammatory disease, traveller’s diarrhoea and many more.
Vibramycin is available as oral tablets. It can be taken with or after food if you experience any stomach discomfort.
For susceptible infections
Adult / Child (body weight ≥45 kg)
200 mg as a single dose OR in 2 divided doses every 12 hours on the first day, then 100 mg once daily; For severe infections, take 200 mg daily.
Child (body weight <45 kg)
4.4 mg/kg in 2 divided doses on the first day then 2.2 mg/kg; For severe infections, take 2.2 mg/kg every 12 hour.
Syphilis
Adult
Take 300 mg daily in divided doses for at least 10 days.
Prevention of traveller’s diarrhoea
Adult
Take 200 mg as a single dose or in 2 divided doses on the first day of travel, then 100 mg once daily throughout your trip.
Common dosing schedule:
Take Vibramycin with or after a meal to reduce stomach upset. Avoid taking it after a large meal.
