Ubretid is a brand medication that contains Distigmine, which belongs to a class of medications known as acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. It works by slowing down the breakdown of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, in order to boost the level of acetylcholine in the body to increase muscle functionality. It is used to treat muscle coordination disorders like myasthenia gravis, postoperative urinary retention and neurogenic bladder disorders.
Ubretid is available as tablets. Take it with a cup of water on an empty stomach 30 minutes before breakfast.
For Myasthenia gravis,
Adult and elderly
Start with 5mg once daily and increase by 2.5 mg daily every week up to 10mg daily.
For Postoperative urinary retention,
Adult
Take 5 mg daily preferably before breakfast.
For Neurogenic bladder disorders,
Adult
Take 5mg daily 30 minutes before breakfast. The maintenance dose is 5-10mg at 2-3 day intervals.
Common side effects of Ubretid include stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, muscle pain, twitching and confusion.
