What is Stilnox for?

Stilnox is a brand product that contains Zolpidem, which is under the class of non-benzodiazepine hypnotic. It works by enhancing the effect of a certain chemical in your brain in order to induce sleepiness. It can be used short-term for insomnia.

How to use it?

Stilnox is available as conventional tablets and modified-release tablets. 

The usual adult dose for conventional tablets is 5 mg (females) and 5-10 mg (males) daily immediately before bedtime with at least 7-8 hours of planned sleep before waking for a maximum of 4 weeks. 

For modified-release tablets, the usual dose is 6.25 mg (females) and 6.25-12.5 mg (males) daily immediately before bedtime with at least 7-8 hours of planned sleep before waking for a maximum of 4 weeks.

What are the side effects of Stilnox?

Common side effects of Stilnox include nausea and vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, temporary memory loss, and headache. There are also reported rare cases of abnormal sleep behaviours like sleepwalking, sleep driving when taking this medicine.

Who should not take Stilnox?

– People who are allergic to zolpidem of any component of the formulation
– Anyone who has experienced abnormal sleep behaviors

Pharmacist Tips:

– If you have experienced abnormal sleeping behaviors such as sleep-walking, report to your doctor or pharmacist immediately and discontinue zolpidem.
– If you notice changes in your thinking or behaviors, tell your doctor or pharmacist.
– Stilnox will cause drowsiness and should be taken right before sleep.
Use the lowest possible dose, and do not double the dose as it could cause extreme drowsiness and severe adverse effects.
– Avoid alcohol use while taking this medication. 

Common dosing schedule:
Stilnox should be taken at bedtime, and should not be taken with or immediately after a meal.

This schedule is for reference only, adjustments may be made according to individual needs.

Melatonin
Rifampicin
Diazepam
Chlorpromazine
Ketoconazole
