Sinemet is a brand product that contains Levodopa and Carbidopa, which belong to the class of dopamine precursor and decarboxylase inhibitors. Levodopa once entered the body will be metabolised to Dopamine, whereas Carbidopa works to prevent the breakdown of Levodopa. It is used for treating Parkinson’s disease.
Sinemet is available as tablets or prolonged-release tablets. You may be switched from conventional tablets to controlled-release tablets, under the supervision of doctors or pharmacists.
For conventional tablets, take 100mg/25mg three times daily, and can be increased by 100mg/25mg (1 tablet) every 1-2 days, up to 8 tablets per day. 250mg/25mg may be switched from 100mg/25mg tablets for more severe cases.
For prolonged-release tablets, take 200mg/50mg twice daily, and can be up to maximum 2400mg/day if needed.
