Seroquel is a brand product that contains Quetiapine, which is a type of second-generation antipsychotic. It works by balancing the chemicals in your brain to improve your mood, and behaviour. Quetiapine is used to treat different mood disorders, including bipolar disorder and major depression.
Seroquel is available as tablets and extended-release tablets.
For treating bipolar disorder, the dose increases gradually for the first few days.
Day 1: 50 mg twice daily
Day 2: 100 mg twice daily
Day 3: 150 mg twice daily
Day 4: 200 mg twice daily
The standard dose is 400-800 mg daily in 2 divided doses, and the maximum daily dose is 800 mg.
The dose is different In extended-release tablets
Day 1: 300 mg once daily
Day 2: 600 mg once daily
As an adjunct for major depression, start with 50 mg once daily at bedtime for 2 days, followed by 150 mg once daily for 2 days. The usual dose is 150-300 mg once daily.
For extended-release tablets, start with 50 mg once daily for 3 days. The dose can be increased to 100 mg once daily for 4 days if necessary, and continue to increase in steps of 50 mg. The usual dose is 50-300 mg once daily.
