What is Roflumilast for?

Roflumilast belongs to a class of medications called phosphodiesterase inhibitors. It can relax the smooth muscle of the airways and stop the airways from reacting to external stimuli. Roflumilast is used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

How to use it?

In Hong Kong, Roflumilast is taken as oral tablets. It does not differ much whether you take the tablets before, during or after the meals.

Adult and elderly
250 mcg once daily for 4 weeks, followed by 500 mcg once daily.

What are the side effects of Roflumilast?

Common side effects of Roflumilast include headache, diarrhea, nausea, weight loss, influenza, sleeplessness and back pain.

Who should not take Roflumilast?

– People allergic to Roflumilast or any component of the formulation.
– Patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment.

– Regular exercise at a moderate intensity.

Common dosing schedule:
Roflumilast tablets are taken once daily without regard to the meal arrangement. For example, you can take it in the morning to prevent the effect of sleeplessness.
