What is Panadeine?

Panadeine is a brand product that contains Paracetamol and Codeine, which belong to the class of medications called non-opioid analgesics and opioid analgesics respectively. They work together to further suppress pain signals in the body. It is therefore used short-term to treat acute moderate pain.

How to use it?

Panadeine is available as tablets. For children 12 years or above and adults, take 2 tablets four times a day. Do not exceed more than 8 tablets a day.

What are the side effects of Panadeine?

Common side effects of Panadeine include drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, constipation and vomiting.

Who should not take Panadeine?

  • People who are allergic to any component of Panadeine
  • Children under 12 years of age
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women
  • Patients with a history of active liver failure.
  • Patients with paralytic ileus
  • Elderly patients

Pharmacist Tips:

  • Avoid driving and operating machinery after taking codeine as it may cause drowsiness.
  • Do not take other paracetamol containing products.
  • Do not use it more than three days in a row.
  • Do not use in children under 12 years of age.
  • Do not use it in the long term because it can cause dependence.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking this medication.
