What is Ketotifen for?

Ketotifen is an antihistamine, and in particular, it is classed as the second generation of antihistamines. Antihistamines work by reducing responses to histamine in your body, which relates to reducing allergic reactions. It is therefore used in allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis.

How to use it?

Ketotifen is available as tablets, oral syrup and eye drops. Eye drops are used in allergic conjunctivitis. Instil one drop to the affected eye twice a day. For allergic rhinitis, take 1mg twice daily with food. It can go up to 2mg twice daily if needed.

What are the side effects of Ketotifen?

Although Ketotifen typically does not cause drowsiness at the usual dose, some people may still experience mild drowsiness.

Who should not take Ketotifen?

People who are allergic to any component of Ketotifen or other antihistamines.
