Invega is a brand medication that contains Paliperidone, which belongs to a class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. It works by balancing the chemicals in your brain and hence restores normal mood, mind, and behaviour. Paliperidone is therefore used to treat schizophrenia.
Invega is available as extended-release tablets and extended-release injectable suspensions. For extended-release tablets, swallow whole, and do not divide, chew or crush the tablet.
For Schizophrenia,
Adult
Extended-release tablet: Initially 6 mg once daily in the morning. Adjust in increments of 3 mg over at least 5 days if necessary. Usual dose range is 3-12 mg daily.
Extended-release intramuscular injection: Initially 150 mg on day 1, then 100 mg after a week. Administer the third dose 1 month after the second initiation dose. Monthly maintenance dose is 75 mg. Usual dose range is 25-150 mg.
Common side effects of Invega include anxiety, abnormal appetite, cough, diarrhoea, fever, allergic skin reactions, agitation, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, erectile dysfunction, insomnia, parkinsonism, seizure, tremor and vomiting.
Common dosing schedule:
Paliperidone is taken once daily at the same time every day, with or without food.
