Indocid is a brand medication that contains Indomethacin, which belongs to a class of medications called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by inhibiting the neurotransmitter responsible for pain signals and inflammation. Therefore, it is used in many different conditions that involve pain, including menstrual pain, ankylosing spondylosis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and acute gout.
Indocid is available as capsules. Take with or after food to reduce stomach upset. The total daily dose should not exceed 200 mg. Take the lowest dose possible to reduce pain for the shortest duration possible.
For acute pain,
take 25-50 mg 2-3 times per day by mouth.
Common side effects of Indocid include stomach indigestion, nausea, bleeding gastric ulcer, and allergic reaction. Prolonged use may lead to kidney injury, bleeding and increase the risk of a cardiovascular event.
