Gravol is a brand product that contains Dimenhydrinate, which belongs to a class of first-generation antihistamines. It works by preventing the actions of histamines in the gastrointestinal smooth muscles and the brain. It is therefore used to treat and prevent motion sickness, nausea and vomiting, and vertigo.
Gravol is available as tablets, syrups and suppositories.
The starting dose for adults is 50-100mg 3-4 times daily. The maximum daily dose is 400mg. If you are taking it for the prevention of motion sickness, take at least 30 minutes before your trip.
The starting dose for children 6-12 years of age is 25-50mg 3 times daily. The maximum daily dose is 150 mg.
The starting dose for children 2-5 years of age is 12.5-25mg 3 times daily. The maximum daily dose is 75 mg.
It is not recommended for use in children under the age of 2.
Common side effects of Gravol include drowsiness and dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, and constipation.
