What is Galvus?

Galvus is a brand medication that contains Vildagliptin, which belongs to a class of medication called dipeptidylpeptidase IV (DPP-4) inhibitors. It works by making the pancreas produce more insulin and less glucagon to control blood sugar level. It is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Galvus can also combine with Metformin as another formulation called Galvus Met, with more effective blood glucose control.

How to use it?

Galvus is available as tablets. 

The usual dose is 50 mg twice daily. A lower dose is used in patients with poor kidney function.

What are the side effects of Galvus?

Common side effects of Galvus include tremor, headache, dizziness, fatigue, nausea and hypoglycemia. This medication does not cause weight gain.

Who should not take Galvus?

  • Anyone who is allergic to any component of Galvus.

Where to buy Galvus in Hong Kong?

In Hong Kong, Galvus is a prescription only medicine, and requires a prescription from a doctor to be purchased in a pharmacy. It can also be obtained from doctors. To find a pharmacy near you, refer to the list of pharmacies (“Authorized Sellers of Poisons”) from the Hong Kong Department of Health.
