What is Ezetrol?
Ezetrol is a brand medication that contains Ezetimibe, which belongs to a class of medications called cholesterol absorption inhibitors. It helps with reducing low-density lipoprotein (LDL, “bad cholesterol”) in the body. Ezetimibe is also used as an adjunct to statin for better blood lipids control, in a brand known as Atozet.
How to use it?
Ezetimibe is available as tablets. The usual dose is 10 mg once daily.
Who should not take Ezetrol?
- People who are allergic to any components of Ezetrol
- Patients with active liver disease
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women and those who intend to become pregnant
Pharmacist Tips:
- Lifestyle modification is the first line treatment for high cholesterol which includes a healthy diet, regular exercise and weight management.
- If you are also taking Cholestyramine, take Ezetimibe 2 hours before or 4 hours after Cholestyramine.
Common dosing schedule:
Take with or without food.
This schedule is for reference only, adjustments may be made according to individual needs.
Some common medications Ezetrol may interact with:
- Warfarin
- Cholestyramine
- Cyclosporine
- Fibrates, e.g. Bezafibrate, Gemfibrozil

Where to buy Ezetrol in Hong Kong?
In Hong Kong, Ezetrol is a prescription only medicine, and requires a prescription from a doctor to be purchased in a pharmacy. It can also be obtained from doctors.
