What is Dutasteride for?
Dutasteride belongs to a class of medications called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It works by inhibiting a hormone in the body responsible for enlargement of the prostate. It is used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, with or without the use of Tamsulosin, under the name of Duodart®.
How to use it?
Dutasteride is taken orally as capsules. The usual dose is 0.5 mg once daily alone, or in combination with Tamsulosin 0.4mg once daily. Swallow the capsules whole. Do not chew, crush or open the capsules.
What are the side effects of Dutasteride?
Common side effects of Dutasteride include impotence, decreased libido, ejaculation disorders, and gynecomastia.
Who should not take Dutasteride?
– People who are allergic to Dutasteride, other 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors, or any component of the formulation
– Pregnant Women
– Pregnant women should not touch and handle Dutasteride capsules because it may harm your unborn baby.
– Do not donate blood during the treatment or for 6 months after discontinuing the treatment.
Common dosing schedule:
Dutasteride can be taken with or without food.
This schedule is for reference only, adjustments may be made according to individual needs.

– Macrolide antibiotics, e.g. Clarithromycin, Erythromycin
– Antifungals, e.g. Itraconazole, Ketoconazole
