What is Dostinex?

Dostinex is a brand medication that contains Cabergoline, which belongs to a class of dopamine agonists. It works by reducing the release of prolactin to treat hyperprolactinemia and suppress lactation.

How to use it?

Dostinex is available as tablets. It can be taken with or without food. 
 

For hyperprolactinemia
Take 0.5mg weekly in one or two doses, then gradually increase the dose by 0.5 mg/week at monthly intervals. The usual maintenance dose is between 0.25-2 mg/week.

 

For suppressing lactation
Take 1mg once during the first day of postpartum.

What are the side effects of Dostinex?

Common side effects of Dostinex include nausea, headache, dizziness, constipation, fatigue, and orthostatic hypotension.

Who should not take Dostinex?

  • People who are allergic to Dostinex or any other ergot derivatives
  • Patients with uncontrolled hypertension
  • Patients with a history of cardiac valvular disorders
  • Patients with a history of pulmonary or pericardial fibrotic disorders

Where to buy Dostinex in Hong Kong?

In Hong Kong, Dostinex is a prescription only medicine, and requires a prescription from a doctor to be purchased in a pharmacy. It can also be obtained from doctors.
