Diflucan is a brand medication that contains Fluconazole, which belongs to a type of antifungal agent. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of fungi. It is used to treat several fungal infections, including vaginal yeast infections and fungal skin infections (Athlete’s foot).
Diflucan is available as capsules, oral suspension or injections.
For vaginal/ vulvovaginal candidiasis
Uncomplicated: take 150mg at once
Complication: take 150mg every 3 days for 3 doses, followed by 150mg once weekly as maintenance doses for 6 months.
For fungal skin infections
Adult: take 50mg once daily for 2-4 weeks, with a maximum duration of 6 weeks.
For prevention of fungal infections in immunocompromised patients
Adult: take 50-400 mg once daily as tablets or injections.
Child: take 3-12 mg/kg once daily with a maximum dose of 400 mg per dose as tablets or injections.
Common dosing schedule:
Take with or without food.
