Botulinum Toxin, commonly known as Botox, belongs to a class of neuromuscular blockers, and it works by blocking the signalling pathway from the nerves to the muscles. Therefore muscle contractions are prohibited. It is therefore used in conditions where involuntary contractions of the muscles are troublesome, including overactive bladder, chronic migraine and cerebral palsy. Botulinum Toxin is also commonly known for its use in beauty and cosmetics. As it can stop the contraction of muscles, it helps to tighten up the skin and cause wrinkles to shrink.
Botulinum Toxin is available as injections.
