What is Ampiclox?

Ampiclox is a brand medication that contains Ampicillin and Cloxacillin, both belong to the class of penicillin antibiotics. They kill bacteria by interrupting the integrity of bacterial cell walls. Ampiclox is used to treat various susceptible bacterial infections.

How to use it?

Ampiclox is available as capsules. 

 

For adults with susceptible infections, take 250mg/250mg four times a day. In severe cases, the daily dose may go up to 12 capsules daily.

For children with susceptible infections, take 125mg/125mg four times a day.

What are the side effects of Ampiclox?

Common side effects of Ampicillin include diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting, flatulence, stomach pain and skin rashes.

Who should not take Ampiclox?

  • Anyone who has an allergy to penicillins.

Pharmacist Tips:

  • Antibiotics like Ampiclox may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives. Consider using another form of contraception while taking Ampiclox (ie. wear a condom)
  • Complete the entire course of this antibiotic as it may cause bacterial resistance.

Common dosing schedule:
Take on an empty stomach to enhance absorption.
