Alogliptin is taken orally as tablets. The usual dose is 25 mg once daily. A lower dose is used in patients with poor kidney function.
Common side effects of Alogliptin include headache, upper respiratory infection, or nasopharyngitis. This medication does not cause weight gain.

In Hong Kong, Alogliptin is a prescription only medicine, and requires a prescription from a doctor to be purchased in a pharmacy. It can also be obtained from doctors.
