What is Alogliptin for?

Alogliptin belongs to a class of medication called dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-4) inhibitors. It works by making the pancreas produce more insulin and less glucagon to control blood sugar levels. It is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

How to use it?

Alogliptin is taken orally as tablets. The usual dose is 25 mg once daily. A lower dose is used in patients with poor kidney function.

What are the side effects of Alogliptin?

Common side effects of Alogliptin include headache, upper respiratory infection, or nasopharyngitis. This medication does not cause weight gain.

Who should not take Alogliptin?

In Hong Kong, Alogliptin is a prescription only medicine, and requires a prescription from a doctor to be purchased in a pharmacy. It can also be obtained from doctors.
