What is Adrenaline for?
Adrenaline belongs to a class of medications called sympathomimetics acting on alpha and beta receptors. Adrenaline is used for treating anaphylactic shock.
How to use it?
Adrenaline is injected through a needle into a vein or muscle as directed by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the dosage and frequency depending on your anaphylactic shock.
Intramuscular injection (1:1000): 500 mcg and repeated every 5 minutes as needed until improvement occurs.
Intravenous injection (1:10000): 0.5 mg at a rate of 100 mcg/min
Intramuscular injection (1:1000): 10 mcg/kg
Intravenous injection (1:10000): 10 mcg/kg
What are the side effects of Adrenaline?
Common side effects of Adrenaline include, but not limited to, tachycardia, arrhythmia, myocardial infarction, anxiety, drowsiness, sweating, nausea and vomiting.
Who should not take Adrenaline?
– People allergic to Adrenaline or any component of the formulation.
Common dosing schedule:
The intramuscular injection is repeated every 5 minutes and the intravenous injection is given at a slow rate until a response is attained.
This schedule is for reference only, adjustments may be made according to individual needs.

– Alpha-1 antagonists, e.g. Doxazosin, Terazosin
– Ergot derivatives, e.g. Ergotamine, Ergometrine
– Sympathomimetics, e.g. Amphetamines, Pseudoephedrine
– Tricyclic antidepressants, e.g. Imipramine, Nortriptyline
