Imatinib
Imatinib belongs to a class of medications called tyrosine kinase inhibitors. It blocks the action of abnormal proteins that signal cancer cells to multiply, which stops the growth of malignant tumours. It is used to treat leukemia (cancer that begins in the white blood cells), gastrointestinal stromal tumour, and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (a type of skin cancer).
