In 1937, the Precious Blood Hospital was founded and began to provide medical services for the public. It grew together with the demand for health-care services in Hong Kong. Precious Blood Hospital expanded for more than 30 years after the Second World War, and in 1975 the Catholic Church in the United States and roughly 8,000 donors funded the George Washington Building. Then, in 1993, the Precious Blood doctors handed over management of the hospital to the Hong Kong Caritas Management and change its name to Blood Hospital (Caritas).
